About the Photography Degree

DESCRIPTION

Use professional equipment and methods to master the skills necessary for this highly visual, creative and exacting profession. MATC’s laboratory/studio areas have state-of-the-art traditional and digital cameras, lighting, processing and finishing equipment. Program requirements include an internship for real-world experience.

Photographers work in advertising, photojournalism, and industrial and portrait photography. Employment opportunities also include equipment sales.

You can earn the Digital Imaging technical diploma on the way to completing this associate degree.

Additional program details: Owning a DSLR or mirrorless camera with interchangeable lenses and
full manual controls that meets coursework requirements is required. You should have normal color and depth perception, visualization ability, and a well-developed imagination with a talent for visual problem-solving. Clean work habits and studio maintenance skills, and good communication skills are important.

Career Outlook

Photographers are employed in the fields of commercial/advertising, industrial, and portrait photography. Photojournalism is an option, as are employment opportunities in photographic sales and as technical representatives. Graduates also may be hired for positions as studio/location personnel specializing in digital imaging applications.
