About the Welding Technology Degree
DESCRIPTION
Bilingual (Spanish) mode also is offered.
This program combines practical, theoretical and technical training in welding fabrication. Advanced courses deal with application of welding codes to develop the expertise needed to become a Certified Associate Welding Inspector or Certified Welding Inspector.
Demand is high for welders with current skills. Graduates typically find employment as welding technicians, robotic welding technicians, technical sales reps and weld test conductors.
This program features exploratory courses that count toward a credential. Contact an MATC advisor for information.
Additional program details: Manual, semiautomatic and automatic processes using oxy fuel and arc processes are covered. Automation courses allow hands-on experience in setting up, programming, operating and troubleshooting computer-controlled cutting equipment and sensory-equipped welding robots.
MATC's graduates have a high first-time pass rate for taking the AWS Certified Welding Inspector exam.
The ability to follow instructions, visualize finished products based on prints, and work independently are key. Good eyesight and mechanical skills are important.
