PETITIONING INFORMATION

The Petition Process is the method that students follow to inform the Healthcare Pathway when they are ready and prepared to begin the core technical courses in their chosen health science program. All students must petition and be accepted into their program before registering for core technical courses.

There will be 2 types of tracks for admissions into the technical courses.

Open Enrollment Programs
Students can enroll in open enrollment programs when enrollment begins each semester. The following programs do not require the student to petition:

  • Dietary Manager (Traditional and Bilingual)
  • Community Health and Nutrition Navigator
  • Central Service Technician
  • Dental Assistant Bilingual
  • Enhanced Yoga Instructor
  • Healthcare Customer Service
  • Nutrition and Dietetic Technician 
  • Pharmacy Technician

Petition Programs
The following programs require students to complete specific requirements prior to Petitioning for the program. Program qualification and selection criteria can be found on each of the program’s web page.

Petitioning Step By Step Guide

1. Apply Online or Update Your Program

For new students to the college:
New Student Application

Link: matc.edu/apply

Re-Admission/Program Change/Update
  • Apply for re-admission at matc.edu if you've been away 2+ semesters, or if you were not continuously enrolled in your program (excluding summers).
  • To change your program, meet with your Pathway Advisor. Pathway Advisors submit program change requests.

2. Complete All Admission Requirements

Complete the following steps:

  1. Pay application fee
  2. Complete MATC's student orientation
  3. Submit official high school transcripts and college transcripts (if applicable) to MATC, Attention: Admissions, 700 West State Street, Milwaukee, WI 53233
  4. Refer to your Program Plan found on Self-Service/myMATC for required program courses
  5. Register for prerequisite classes
  6. CBC Process Acknowledgment Form, students will be required to complete the CastleBranch
    process at petition. Nursing Assistant students will be required to complete the CastleBranch

4. NLN/HESI/TEAS Entrance Exams

Check which exam is required for your program. Exam schedule sign-up:

TEAS required for:

  • Anesthesia Technology (minimum score of 70%)
  • Cardiovascular Technology (Echocardiography and Invasive) (minimum score of 70%)
  • Dental Hygiene (minimum composite score of 70%)
  • Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (minimum score of 70%)
  • Medical Laboratory Technician (minimum composite score of 60%)
  • Occupational Therapy Assistant (minimum composite score of 65%)
  • Physical Therapist Assistant (minimum composite score of 65%)
  • Radiography (minimum composite score of 70%, 70% in Math, 70% in Science)
  • Respiratory Therapist (minimum composite score of 60%)
  • Surgical Technology (minimum composite score of 60%)

TEAS required for:

  • PN – Practical Nursing (58.7% or better)
  • RN – Registered Nursing (65% or better)

HESI required for:

  • LPN-ADN Progression (900 or better)

No exam required for the following programs:

  • Health Information Technology
  • Healthcare Services Management

No exam required for technical diploma programs except for Practical Nursing. 

5. Petition Application

Petition Windows

  • For associate degrees, the windows are in February and September
  • For technical diplomas, the windows are in March and October

 

Petition Windows 

The Petition application window will open for new eligible applicants on the following dates:

  • Associate Degree Programs: open September 2-30, 2024*
  • Technical Diploma Programs: open October 1-31, 2024*

    *Please note that some programs will remain open until capacity has been met.
